We’ve just wrapped up Session 2 of our webinar series. This time the focus was on something people have been asking about for a while: Joiin’s Excel Add-in. Here’s a quick look at why we built it, how it works and how teams are using it today.
Why we built the Excel Add-in
From the beginning, Joiin set out to move teams away from slow and manual reporting. Even so, many accountants, FDs, CFOs, bookkeepers and CEOs still rely on Excel for familiar workflows and those final adjustments.
Joiin already automates consolidation and keeps reporting consistent. The Excel Add-in simply extends that approach by bringing live Joiin data into the Excel files people already use.
There’s no need to choose between Joiin or Excel. You can now use both together.
The Add-in was built to solve three problems
- Retaining the flexibility of Excel
- Replacing fragile XLOOKUPs and broken formulas
- Removing stale exports and heavy manual updates
How we built it
We approached development in the same way we do with every new feature.
- Start simple
- Put it in real users’ hands
- Let them push it to the limits
- Iterate based on real workflows
We worked closely with consultants and multi-entity teams who spend hours each month exporting trial balances and stitching tabs together. Their feedback shaped the Add-in from day one.
One power user is now saving a full working day each month compared to his previous export-and-rebuild workflow. You can read the full case study here.
What we covered in the session
This session focused on practical examples that teams can apply straight away.
1. Getting set up in minutes: Kyle showed how simple it is to download the Add-in, add your API key and connect. No complicated steps. A quick setup that gets you working immediately.
2. Using the built-in templates: Ideal for creating clean, live trial balances or P and L statements that you can then format your own way.
3. Building a P&L from scratch: We built a simple P&L live in under five minutes. Once the structure is there, it becomes fully set and forget. Numbers update every period without touching the layout.
This removes the kind of manual work that used to take teams like Warrick’s days each month.
4. Dashboards and visuals: We wrapped up with dashboards powered entirely by live data. No more rebuilding charts or refreshing pivot tables. Everything updates in one click.
