Written by Joiin’s Head of Customer Success, Harry Symons, who hosted the session, we’ve kicked off our brand-new webinar series, designed to help new users get more from Joiin and to showcase the huge changes we’ve made over the past few months.
Here’s a look back at the session – the good stuff, the insights, and what we’re building on next.
With people joining from Southend to South Africa, and a few places in between, we welcomed a lively mix of users with plenty of good questions and ideas flying around. I was joined by Kyle, one of our product experts, making his webinar debut and absolutely smashing it, may I add.
If you missed it, here’s what we covered in Session 1: Joiin Essentials
What we walked through
This session was all about helping users get confident with the essentials and see how the latest updates make day-to-day reporting smoother.
- Chart of accounts mapping: we showed how easy it is to tidy up mismatched GL codes and use Joiin’s AI suggestions to align entities across systems.
- Custom report layouts: how to build reports that match your structure, from detailed management packs to quick P&L summaries.
- Report packs: together we created polished, shareable reports with dynamic dates that stay up to date automatically.
- Charts and commentary: adding visuals and summaries that update in line with your data, making reports clearer for everyone.
- Non-financial data: how to bring in metrics like headcount, sales per rep, or number of projects to create a fuller picture.
- Dashboards and permissions: how to give teams and clients access to what they need, safely and simply.
All designed to help multi-entity teams save time, stay consistent, and make reporting less painful each month.
Q&A Highlights
We had far more questions than we could get through live, which is a great problem to have. We’ve followed up with everyone individually, but here’s a quick summary of the main themes.
Data & integrations
A lot of questions focused on how Joiin connects to your systems and manages data.
- Historic data: Two years by default, or further if you have more history in your source system.
- Refresh rate: Automatic daily syncs, or trigger a manual refresh any time.
- Multiple systems: You can combine Xero, QBO, Sage, and others in a single report.
- Future integrations: Incoming API to any platform coming soon.
Reporting & customisation
Users wanted to know how flexible Joiin is when it comes to structure and design.
- Custom layouts let you show each entity’s results separately within consolidated reports.
- Report packs can include your own logo and backgrounds; custom cover templates are on the roadmap.
- Dynamic Excel formulas and pinned headers are both in development.
- Department or brand reporting works via tracking categories or classes.
Budgets, KPIs & non-financial data
The new non-financial data feature drew plenty of attention.
- You can add your own data, like headcount, bookings, or other metrics and use them in KPIs.
- Budgets can be imported from accounting systems or uploaded manually, even by brand or category.
- The KPI builder allows custom formulas, ratios, and combinations of financial and non-financial metrics.
Access & setup
Some asked about structure and usability.
- You can toggle which company each account belongs to within layouts.
- Multi-client set-ups let you manage separate spaces for different clients or teams.
- Additional training sessions and slower walkthroughs are being planned.
- Our support team is always available for one-to-one help with access or setup.
A few practical touches
A handful of questions came up around real-world use:
- VAT treatment can differ across entities; you can configure this at entity level.
- We’ll slow the demo pace slightly next time, and all sessions are recorded so you can pause and replay.
