Financial reporting gives you plenty to work with, from understanding changes in performance to planning for the months ahead. Joiin Intelligence is the AI layer built into Joiin, helping you explore your data and carry out tasks using our established reporting tools.
In this blog, we look at how it helps with that work, using practical examples of asking questions about your results, building reports and updating forecasts.
Ask questions about what’s changed
When a figure needs a closer look, you can ask Joiin Intelligence about it directly. Start with a comparison, then use follow-up questions to work through the detail.
For example: “Compare this month’s operating expenses with last month, broken down by company.”
You can then ask about a particular account or review spending with a supplier. This helps you narrow down what needs checking before speaking to the relevant team.
You’ll still know things the data doesn’t explain. A larger invoice might reflect an agreed investment, or a cost could have landed earlier than expected. AI helps you find the figures so you can bring that knowledge to the review.
Describe the report you need
An investigation often leads to a request for another report. You might need to compare companies over a longer period or prepare a pack for colleagues to review.
Our Build Report Agent lets you describe what you need in plain English: “Build a monthly management pack for the UK group with a P&L, Balance Sheet and Cashflow.”
The agent builds the report or pack within Joiin, ready for you to review. You can ask for a prior-year comparison, add another report or make adjustments yourself.
And once it’s built, you can use the usual filtering, drill-down, sharing and export options. You have a working report that you can continue to use.
Get help with the work behind the reports
Bringing several companies together means keeping account mappings and intercompany adjustments consistent. Our AI agents can help with specific parts of that work.
The Chart of Accounts agent identifies potential duplicate accounts and classifications worth reviewing. It can also make changes you approve, such as merging accounts under a common name.
The Elimination agent helps create elimination sets and groups. You could ask it to set up an intercompany loan elimination between two companies, then review the proposed configuration.
If your consolidated Balance Sheet doesn’t balance, the Balance Diagnosis Agent checks where the difference arises and points you towards the company and stage that need attention.
Agents that change your setup ask for approval before proceeding and show you what changed. Diagnostic checks leave the data as it is.
Put your assumptions into the forecast
Once you’ve reviewed the results, you may need to revisit the forecast.
Within Joiin’s Forecasts module, you can describe an assumption and let Joiin Intelligence turn it into a rule. For example:“Increase subscription revenue by 5% from January.”
Review the rule and adjust it as needed. You can apply rules to particular accounts and periods, making it easier to reflect a contract ending or a planned change in costs.
Changes to the P&L flow through the linked Balance Sheet and Cashflow. Payment assumptions let you refine when receivables are collected and payables are settled, so you can see how the timing affects projected cash.
You decide what the business expects to happen. Joiin helps you work through the financial effect.
Use Claude or ChatGPT with your Joiin data
If you already use an AI assistant at work, you can connect it to Joiin through MCP.
This lets you request financial reports, check overdue invoices, review customer and supplier activity, and search transactions from a compatible tool such as Claude or ChatGPT.
For example, ask for revenue by company, then follow up with a question about customer sales in one entity. You can explore the results without preparing a separate export for each question.
Access follows your Joiin permissions. When choosing an external AI tool, use an account approved for your organisation’s financial data, as that provider’s terms govern how it handles information received through MCP.
Work from figures you can check
The financial results come from Joiin’s established reporting framework, using data from your connected systems. Joiin Intelligence helps you operate the tools and work with those results.
You can drill into the underlying detail to check the figures. And when you need to explain them, AI commentary gives you a first draft to review and develop with your knowledge of the business.
A useful place to start is a task you already do each month. Ask about a movement in your costs, describe a report you regularly prepare or try setting a forecast rule. Review the result and take it from there.
